FAQ

Common Questions About CNC Machining in NZ

Everything you need to know before working with Kinetix Fabworks.

What is Swiss CNC machining and when should I use it?+
Swiss CNC machining uses a precision guide bushing to support the workpiece right at the cutting point, eliminating deflection. This enables extreme accuracy on long, thin, or micro-scale parts—medical screws, connector pins, dental implants, miniature shafts—any cylindrical component under Ø32 mm requiring tolerances of ±0.002 mm or better.
What tolerances can Kinetix Fabworks hold?+
On our Swiss CNC lathes we routinely hold positional tolerances of ±0.002 mm and diameter tolerances as tight as ±0.001 mm on suitable materials. Our 5-axis CNC milling centres achieve ±0.003 mm positional accuracy. All critical features are verified on our Zeiss CMM with full SPC documentation available.
What is your typical lead time for CNC machined parts?+
Prototype and sample quantities (1–20 pieces) typically ship within 5–10 business days from drawing approval. Standard production runs are quoted with specific lead times depending on material availability and complexity. We always quote a firm delivery date and meet it. Rush prototyping is available for time-critical projects.
Can you machine titanium and Inconel?+
Yes. We regularly machine titanium Grade 5 (Ti-6Al-4V) and Grade 23 (ELI) for medical and aerospace applications, and Inconel 625 and 718 for high-temperature defence components. Full material traceability with mill certificates and certificates of conformance for every batch.
Do you offer DFM (Design for Manufacturability) review?+
Yes, included with every quote at no additional charge. Our engineers review your 2D drawing or 3D STEP file and flag features that will increase cost, risk quality, or are difficult to inspect—before quoting or machining. This often saves significant time and cost by catching design issues at quotation stage.
Are you ISO 9001 certified?+
Yes. Kinetix Fabworks operates under an ISO 9001 certified QMS with documented processes, calibrated equipment, controlled inspection records, and non-conformance management embedded into every job. For medical customers we supply full FAI reports, material traceability documentation and process capability data.
About Our Services

CNC Machining in New Zealand — Built for Precision-Critical Industries

Kinetix Fabworks is a New Zealand precision machining company specialising in Swiss sliding-headstock CNC turning and multi-axis CNC milling for high-specification industries. We operate from a modern, purpose-built facility equipped with the latest Swiss-type CNC lathes and 5-axis machining centres, supported by a Zeiss coordinate measuring machine for verified dimensional inspection on every batch.

Unlike general engineering shops, our focus is deliberately narrow: we machine small, complex, tight-tolerance components for the medical device, aerospace, electronics and defence sectors. This specialisation means our team has deep material knowledge, appropriate tooling, and refined processes for bone screws, catheter bodies, connector pins, sensor housings, hydraulic stems, RF components and more.

New Zealand manufacturers increasingly need a local precision machining partner who can support both prototype development and volume production without compromising on quality or documentation. Kinetix Fabworks provides the precision, quality systems, and speed of a local partner—without the trade-offs of offshore sourcing.

Our ISO 9001 certified quality management system ensures that every part is traceable, every measurement documented, and every delivery meets the specification on your drawing. From single prototypes reviewed in 24 hours to production runs with full SPC reporting, we're the machining partner New Zealand's most demanding industries rely on.
