FAQ

CNC Machinist NZ — Common Questions

Our standard machining tolerance is ±0.01 mm for general engineering. For precision applications in aerospace, medical, and instrumentation, we routinely achieve ±0.005 mm with CMM verification. If your drawing calls for tighter, share your requirements and we'll confirm feasibility in your DFM review. See also our precision engineering services.
Prototype and one-off parts typically take 3–5 business days from drawing approval to dispatch. Standard production batches ship in 7–14 business days. Complex multi-operation parts or large volumes may require 15–21 business days. We'll confirm lead time in your quotation. For urgent NZ jobs, ask about our express machining lane.
We accept STEP (.stp/.step), IGES (.igs/.iges), DWG, DXF, and STL for 3D print reference. STEP format is preferred for CNC machining. If you only have a 2D drawing (PDF or DXF), we can work from that for simple turned or milled parts — contact us and our engineers will advise.
Yes. We coordinate a full suite of post-machining finishes including anodising (clear, hard, colour), electroless nickel plating, zinc plating, passivation (stainless steel), powder coating, and bead blasting. These are managed through our verified finishing partners and delivered as a complete supply. Specify your finish requirement on your RFQ.
No minimum order quantity. We machine single prototype parts as readily as production batches. For very low volumes (1–5 pieces), per-part price will reflect setup amortisation — our quotation will clearly show unit pricing at your requested quantity, and we're happy to discuss cost-saving alternatives via DFM review.
Local NZ CNC machine shops offer convenience but often at higher cost and with limited axis capability. Kinetix FabWorks provides 5-axis machining, a wider material range, and competitive pricing — with the same documentation, traceability, and quality expectations. Explore our full precision engineering services or contact us for a direct comparison quote.
Yes. We provide mill-traceable material certificates (EN 10204 3.1 or 2.2 as required), dimensional inspection reports, first-article inspection (FAI) documentation, and certificate of conformance (CoC) with every order on request. These are standard requirements for aerospace, defence, and medical applications and are available at no additional charge.
