What Is CNC Machining?

CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machining is a subtractive manufacturing process where pre-programmed computer software controls the movement of factory machinery and tools. From simple cuts to complex multi-axis operations, CNC machining converts raw material stock into precision-engineered components with consistent repeatability and micron-level accuracy.

Modern CNC centres combine milling, turning, drilling, boring, and threading operations into a single workflow — minimising handling and maximising dimensional accuracy across production runs from one-off prototypes to high-volume batches.

Unlike 3D printing or casting, CNC machined parts offer superior surface finish, tight tolerances, and mechanical integrity — making them the industry standard for load-bearing, moving, and safety-critical applications across NZ’s engineering sector.

From File to Finished Part — Our Process

01

Submit Your Files & Requirements

Send your DXF, DWG, STEP, or IGES files with material, tolerance, and quantity details. No drawings? Our engineering team can assist with reverse engineering and re-design.

02

Design for Manufacture Review

We perform DFM analysis to identify manufacturability issues, suggest optimisations, and confirm tolerances before production begins — saving time and cost.

03

CNC Programming & Toolpath Generation

CAM software generates optimised toolpaths for milling, turning, or multi-axis machining. Tool selection is validated against material hardness and finish specification.

04

Precision Machining & In-Process QC

Parts are machined with CMM-verified in-process checks at critical datums. First-article inspection is standard for new part numbers.

05

Finishing, Certification & Dispatch

Surface finishing, passivation, or coating is applied, then parts are packaged with material certs, inspection reports, and dispatched to your NZ or international address.

Why Choose Kinetix FabWorks?

  • Micron-Level Accuracy:CMM-verified dimensional inspection with full traceability on every batch
  • Multi-Market Reach:Serving NZ, Australia, USA, and Canada from a single supplier relationship
  • Full Material Traceability:Mill certificates, test reports, and compliance documentation as standard
  • Rapid Prototyping:Fast-track service for prototype and first-article parts with short lead times
